SMeet Mini Apps
Help for users
A Mini App is a page made by the author of a bot. It opens in a SMeet window over your chat with that bot. SMeet shows you who made it and what it receives before it opens, and asks you before anything is sent to the bot.
Opening a Mini App#
- Press a button such as Open the form under a message of the bot, open a link to the bot that a site or a person gave you, or press Open app on the bot's card.
- Before the app opens, SMeet shows a consent screen: the app, its author, its domain, its age category, what it receives, and links to the author's privacy policy and support. Nothing goes to the author until you press Open.
- If you have not started the bot yet, the screen offers Start the bot and open: the app works only with the bot started, and the bot can then write to you. You can stop or block it at any time.
- If you blocked the bot, the screen offers only to unblock it or to close.
- A test version is marked "Test version, not reviewed by SMeet". Only its author, the testers they invited and the people reviewing it can open it.
What the app receives#
The consent screen lists exactly this:
- your SMeet user ID, the same one every bot you talk to sees in your chat with it;
- the language of your SMeet interface;
- your display name, only if the app asks for it;
- the results you send to the bot, each time only after you confirm them.
With these SMeet passes the details of the launch: the space you opened the app in (SMeet's public space or your organisation), your chat with its bot, and the tag of the link or button that opened it.
Loading the app shows your IP address and device information to the author's server, as any website you visit sees them. What you type into the app goes straight to the author's server and is handled under the author's privacy policy.
No Mini App of another author receives your email address, phone number, password, contacts, other chats or access to your SMeet account. It cannot turn on your camera or microphone, and in the SMeet web app it gets no access to your location either.
In the window#
- The bar at the top shows the app's title and its domain, the address it is loaded from. If the page moves to another site, SMeet covers it and says so.
- Back in the bar goes back inside the app when the app asks for it.
- The menu has About the author, Report, Revoke access, Block bot, Reload and Close.
- Browser dialogs (alerts, password prompts) never appear in the window. If something in the window asks for your SMeet password, it is not SMeet: close it and report the app.
Sending to the bot#
When the app wants to send a result to its bot, SMeet shows Send the data to the bot? with the app, the bot and every field. Nothing goes until you press Send; Cancel sends nothing. The result goes to the author of the bot. SMeet keeps it only to deliver it, for up to 7 days while the bot has not received it.
Closing#
Press Close in the bar or in the menu. If the app has unsaved changes, it may ask you once to confirm; a second press closes it. The window also closes when you sign out, switch accounts or spaces, stop or block the bot, or when the author or SMeet makes the app unavailable. During a call the window hides and comes back afterwards.
Reporting an app#
Choose Report in the menu, or Report the mini app in the bot's profile. Pick a reason: spam, abuse or harassment, fraud or scam, illegal content, privacy violation, or other, and add a comment of up to 1000 characters if you want. You can send one report a minute. SMeet platform administrators review reports within 24 hours; administrators of an organisation do not see them.
Revoking access#
Choose Revoke access in the menu. SMeet closes the app on all your devices, ends its sessions and cancels the results the bot has not received yet. Your chat with the bot stays, and you can open the app again later; it shows the consent screen again.
Data the author has already received stays with the author. To have it deleted, write to the author: the consent screen and the confirmation of revoking link to their privacy policy and support.
Blocking the bot#
Choose Block bot in the menu, or block the bot from the chat. The bot can no longer write to you, and its app closes until you unblock the bot and start it again.
Where Mini Apps open#
Mini Apps open in the SMeet web app and in SMeet for iOS, iPadOS and macOS. SMeet for Android, the desktop app and older versions of the apps show the app's button as inactive; open the same chat in the web app instead.
Privacy#
How SMeet handles bots and Mini Apps, and what it keeps about launches, is described in the section "Bots and Mini Apps" of the Privacy Policy. The rules every author accepts are the Rules for authors.
